Advocacy for children is a major component of the PTA mission ...
and most of this work is done on a state and national level. As your school's PTA, we are concerned about KISD's low level of funding and potential threats to future funding. Although KISD performs in the top 15 percent academically, the district is funded in the bottom 20 percent of Texas school districts. KISD spends less money per student than Birdville ISD, Carroll ISD, Colleyville-Grapevine ISD, Coppell ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Lewisville ISD, and Northwest ISD. Imagine the schools we could have with more favorable funding. "Love Letters to Austin" is our advocacy effort to promote better school funding for KISD. Students will have an opportunity to get involved in this campaign to make a difference by signing one of the conversation hearts below.
HLES PTA will send these hearts to our Texas House and Senate representatives for the upcoming 85th Legislative Session in Austin. For your convenience, we have provided links below to the state representatives that represent our area. Please help us in our endeavor to receive more favorable funding for KISD and write or call today!
The more letters we send to Austin, the more likely we are to have better funding for our children in future years.

Please direct any questions regarding KISD and its legislative efforts to our KISD attorney and general counsel, Amanda Bigbee, at (817) 744-1143.

HLES Teacher of the Year!
The"Painting the Playground" event has been rescheduled for April 14 at 9 AM. If we need more time to complete it, we will continue the event on April 15. Please update your availability on the provided sign-up genius below. Extra paintbrushes will also be greatly appreciated.
The Kids Beach Club is in need of volunteers on Tuesdays after school from 2:45 - 4:15 PM (beginning again next Fall). Volunteers lead a group of approximately 10-12 children (including grades 2nd, 3rd and 4th) through Bible verses, worship time and games. Beach club activities are designed to help draw the children closer to Jesus, our ultimate treasure. It's a great way to get involved with the children of HLES in an uplifting and encouraging environment, while building Christ-centered relationships that will last for years to come. Please call Naomi Kayser at 972-754-0723 or Fran Schmidt at 817-201-9444 for more information. Thanks so much for helping to keep this great program strong at HLES!

PTA IS CURRENTLY RECRUITING GRADE-LEVEL REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR AND WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU!
The grade level representative is responsible for email communication between the PTA and the classrooms regarding holiday parties, end-of-the-year parties, teacher appreciation activities, and other news or events. A grade level representative is responsible for email communication only and will not be expected to cut, copy or help out in the classroom.
If you are interested in helping out in this way, please email Andrea Roberts by clicking on her name, along with the grade your student is going into next year.
